We went to the top of Europe the ‘Jungfrau’ today. To get there we need to travel on two different trains through valleys, tunnels, and mountains. Even in September, with sun in the valleys, the train came through a tunnel with snow at the other side. During the train rides, we were able to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. With snow on the mountain and the typical Switzerland houses on the mountain, it was just like looking at a beautiful Europe Alpine postcard. Everyone with camera was acting like professional photographers and took lots of beautiful pictures.
We finally got to Junfraujoch, top of Europe. First we visited the Eispalast (Ice Palace) and then we took a lift to the Plateau to see the Junfrau. We all had to buckled up with skiwear to keep warm. However, the magnificent view of the Junfrau (4158M = 13642ft) kept everyone excited and didn’t even notice the low temperature.
We had lunch in one of the restaurant. It served nice warm lunch along with wonderful Alpine view.
In the afternoon, we traveled to Lucerne. After check-in to a hotel, we all went out for a walking tour of Lucerne. Lucerne is a city straddles the Reuss River where it drains the lake; it has a number of bridges. The most famous is the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrucke), a 204 m (670 ft) long wooden bridge originally built in 1333. Partway across, the bridge runs by the octagonal Water Tower (Wasserturm), a fortification from the 13th century. Inside the bridge are a series of paintings from the 17th century depicting events from Luzern's history. The Bridge with its Tower is the city's most famous landmark.
Li got coupons for us to visit a Rolex store and exchanged Rolex spoon as souvenirs. We had free time for shopping and sightseeing of the city. Everyone got the chance of buying souvenirs or gifts. Then we all walked on the Chapel Bridge and took some pictures with swans in the lake.
After dinner, we decided to take an after dinner walk to help to digest the wonderful dinner. Li took us to a hike up to a small hill in the city to see the night view of Lucerne. It was a nice one-hour plus walk and we had a beautiful view of Lucerne at night. After the walk, we rewarded ourselves with either ice cream or beer.
